Optimising Steam

Go into your Steam settings and make sure your connection setting is correct (Steam appears to like to default the setting to a pathetic 256k)

Also make sure your download region is correct.

For Black Ops Multiplayer:

Launch the game and open the in game console by pressing the ` key which is located next to the number 1.

Next apply the following commands:

1) /snaps 30
2) /cl_maxpackets 100
3) /rate 25000
4) /sv_maxrate 25000

This should lower your ping while playing online games.

Console for Black Ops Multiplayer is enabled by default.

If for some reason something was changed, the option is in the settings.  I think under multiplayer or game settings.

the console for multiplayer is on, but doesn't single / co-op have console too?
Or can you only do  this on multiplayer?

Co-Op has console but it has to be enabled through the config file.

I'm a bit weary of giving people console in SP, Treyarch disabled it intentionally.

Worse thing that can happen is loads of cheating co-op games like we had with WaW but i guess that's already happening via trainers anyway :S

Well one way or another, the cheats are going to be used when the mod tools come out. They can hardly expect users to test maps and such without console commands can they?

The problem is that like you've said it leaves it open to cheaters in ALL of the game modes. If you look at the available servers for zombies in CoD5 nearly all of them are cheat-enabled.

If devmap is only allowed through a custom mod, then it would stop some of the cheaters (since I doubt Treyarch will have leaderboards for mods xD)

I think Treyarch will enable console for SP only if Mod Tools is installed.

Even then i doubt they will open up the commands like they did with WaW, they have taken the effort not to leave them open and i'm pretty sure it's going to stay that way (thank god)

I bet he has velcro, instead of shoe laces because there is no cheat to tie his shoes lmao
